Season of Reflection: Blood Debts

In this season of reflection as we close 2022 in a few days, just wanted to say to all those who are going through the highs and lows of life especially during the holidays, I totally see you.

When you are around those closest to you during these times, it can be easy to take on a lot and forget about your own mental health and well being.

In many ways, this manifests itself as what I call blood debts -- or in the Filipino culture, utang na loob -- something that I've explored in depth the last few years.

I wanted to refloat this wonderful piece from Malaka Gharib around this topic that was featured on NPR's Code Switch earlier this year. (Yes, I am the "Leezel" referenced in this piece)

As well as the Positively Filipino webinar I moderated on this topic this past summer: http://www.positivelyfilipino.com/magazine/life-and-debt-of-gratitude

This exploration of blood debts started back in 2015 with my story about my house: https://money.cnn.com/.../millennial-home-buying/index.html

And that eventually led to my FYLPRO legacy project (still a work in progress) Blood Debts.

With the many life events that have happened in the last 3 years, I still plan to release another season once I catch my breath.

In the meantime, I hope you take a listen and take a pause to take care of yourself and each other as well.
